Underground Hideout

(Spiderman Level Prototype)

Underground Hideout is a personal project I developed with the goal of creating a level based on the 'Spiderman' games. I set out to see how quickly I could create and iterate a level for a game and to what standard of quality, and as such the final blockout featured some significant changes whilst still maintaining the original plan's overall layout.

Key Points:

  • Quick sketch of level layout to get general idea of core design.

  • Final blockout differs from original concept slightly by altering one half of the area to feature a bridge that Spiderman can swinging kick enemies off of.

  • Objects in Yellow are objects Spiderman can 'yank' to hit enemies with.

  • Objects in Red are 'zip points' that Spiderman can quickly web to for mobility.

  • Objects in blue are 'power boxes' that Spiderman can use his electric gadgets to trigger emp blasts.

  • Objects in purple are spawn points for Underground enemies to enter from if combat is initiated, the Underground dressed in their purple and black like in the 'Miles Morales' game.

Key Points:

  • Verticality added in different ways, from central generator platform, to main floor below it, to raised parallel platforms on the left, and bridge to large platform on the right.

  • Several perch points are placed throughout the level to encourage both stealth and combat playstyles.

  • Enemies position themselves close to objects Spiderman can yank to knock them out before a fight starts.

  • Large spacious area to accommodate typical Spiderman levels.

  • A handful of power boxes are scattered throughout the area to prevent them being too overpowered whilst still very useful to the player.
