Employee of the Day

In Employee of the Day, players take control of up to 4 Supermarket Employees in hectic couch co-op action. Inspired by games such as 'Overcooked', players must fulfil customer orders by running around different Supermarket shopfloors to collect goods and deposit them into the customers bag, whilst also making sure to constantly restock shelves from the stock room, teamwork is key to ensuring the highest score!

This game was developed by myself and 4 coursemates at University for a module on 'Gameplay'. We aimed to create a 'Vertical Slice' of a game that could be developed further, hence why it only has 2 levels.

My Primary Responsibilities:

  • Level Design

  • Narrative Design

I also assisted with:

  • 3D Modelling

  • C# Programming

  • Sounds (Voice Over)

  • First level - Very simple and normative for a supermarket, to gently bring in the player.

  • Future levels begin to shake things up - wackier designs & mechanics.

  • Based off first concept art from our concept artist.

  • Several iterations before final design including addition of stock room, coveyer belt, and lever mechanic.

  • Second level - Show potential for future levels with mechanics and absurdity.

  • Time constraints limited us to only 2 levels.

  • Core mechanic is busy road players have to cross to get stock.

  • Alternative safer pathway of the bridge - takes longer to get to and from stock room.

  • Iterations changing to smaller one-person bridge put more thought and strategy into using it as opposed to risking crossing the road.

Employee of the Day Level 2 Greybox to Final Design
  • Extra level greybox prototypes.

  • First greybox - Lemonade Stand level, relatively simple for first dimension.

  • Second greybox - Warehouse level, considered to be original tutorial level with all basic mechanics visible - too cluttered.

  • Game levels contained within different dimensions.

  • First dimension - Regular world to introduce basics.

  • Future dimension - Fantasy world with magic mechanics, cauldrons that spew buff and debuff effects.

  • Another possible dimension - Prehistoric, dinosaur mechanics such as needing to feed them.
